Tree Pruning

  • Tree pruning is done to allow for people and trees to cohabit in an urban area. Successful tree pruning alleviates the need to fell troublesome trees in many situations.
  • The term tree pruning encompasses many different operations, below are some of the most popular:
  • Crown reduction – Used mainly for trees that have outgrown their situation, Crowns can be reduced in size whilst maintaining their natural shape (Crown reduction pic)
  • Crown lifting – Removal of  low branches is a commonly undertaken operation to prevent branch interference with pedestrian or vehicular traffic and is a very useful method to allow more light into an area. (Crown lift pic)
  • Crown thinning – An operation used commonly used to reduce the density of a tree to allow more light to filter through. The crown generally remains the same size and shape. (Crown thin pic)
  • Crown clean – Deadwood, broken branches and otherwise damaged branches in trees can be unsightly or pose a threat when above certain target areas or in areas used by vehicular or pedestrian traffic. The removal of such branches will be carried out in a controlled manner to remove the risk that they pose.
  • Removal of epicormics growth and suckers – Epicormic growth are the shoots arising from activated dormant buds. The growth from these buds in some species is common and prolific and needs to be removed in some cases to prevent vision obscurity and aesthetic issues commonly found on Lime trees on streets.
